    hey guys..

ive been into xbox's for quite some time and consider myself a small expert. when it comes to playstation's its quite the opposite. i've bought a pstwo (slim) and am wanting to mod it. i've got access to the following 3 chips:

    Crystal
    ***4
    GHost2

i was looking at the ***4 as they have one of the better websites and nice install guides. but ive been reading around on here and people don't seem to like them and the site changes the letters to stars??? which out of those do people recommend over others and why? and could someone post the links to their websites? i only found the *** one.

some xbox mods come pre-flashed. is this the case for ps2 chips? if i install one of the above chips, can i simply put a backup in and play it? or is there a flashing procedure i have to follow? (this would be alot easier if the tutorial section had SOMETHING in it)

anyway, i've also read about the fixes so the laser doesn't blow up. i've got the guide from the klipper site. do people recommend doing both fixes? or will the newer one work on its own?

    thanks fellas.

    edit: added some more questions

I would go with crystal but the matrix infinity is a good option. They censored it because of certain things that they did. I have a ps2 with one of these chips and it never worked right. It might have had a bad laser or install but still. The ghost2 I dont recomend due to a recovery disc that was coded with Sony PSone Dev Software. I would do those fixes to help the laser to be protected. If it was those 3 chips I would go with Crystal. I hope this helps.

Edit: Most of these modchips have firmwares that dont allow backups but a hacked firmware for some of these chips are avaliable. The one for the 2nd chip isn't allowed here. I just wanted to update on this.

so just say that i bought the chip and didnt want to put a hacked bios on.. whats the point of the chip? and am i allowed to ask where to get the firmware and how to flash the chip?

and just say i do get the crystal, i dont want to solder anything to the chips on the top of the board, can i use instructions of another chip to put it underneath the board?

    thanks for your help.

Actually you make it sound as if they support their product more than anyone else. I had a matrix infinity in my ps2 and updates never came as often as i had hoped. They have only ever updated their Infinity manager two times. One time to fix bugs and one other time to allow the loading of firmware from memory card (the pstwo firmware).

The crystal chip is much better. Better support through their forums, much better app support in their Bootmanager software and much better options. They also have a feature no other modchip has, Color Carrier fix for dvd movies. *** and Matrix do not have this feature. Crystal is the first chip to have this ever!

I have had a crystal chip in my ps2 for only two months but i have never looked back since!

    ok.. so crystal looks good.

two questions that havent been answered though:
    - and am i allowed to ask where to get the firmware and/or how to flash the chip?
    - can i use instructions of another chip to put it underneath the board? (as the crystal intructions say to put it on top)

Mine is placed in a different location to where the crystal specs say to place it.

The firmware is open source so posting of the firmware source changes is perfectly legal on this website. Do a search here, you will find hacked firmware to all crytal chip bm versions.

In my opinion, i don't see any difference between code changes users post here and those officially put online by modchip groups. The crystal team has so far fixed most bugs just like these other teams too. Lots of members here have been very friendly and open about modifying the crystal firmware themselves.

wicked.. found everything i need (i think )

theres a few fixes.. can i apply all 3 of them? or do they mess with one another?

    - ripper has 2 here
    - neosic has one on here with 2 fixes in built into 1 board here

so can they all be used at once?

    thanks.

Can this pack be used with loader programs, (swap magic, etc.) or PS2's with other chips?
