I am very new to all of this and I would like a little information before I get into it. What exactly can you do with a mod chip? Can you rip games and install them to a hard drive like Xbox or can you only play burnt games and imports? Thanks.

a mod chip lets u bypass the disc protection on ps2 dvds taht cant be copied..this allows u to play back up copiesof the games on they ps2..... u dont need a mod chip to play games off your hard drive.... its similar to teh xbox becuase u can also do this on that system . it also saves u time and effort , swap magic is annoying and takes longer the a mod chip... mod chip lets u just put the burned game in and play or application....swap magic u can use on a ps2 withno mod chip. but u have to swap out the disc and it gets annoyign after awhile. look it up on google and find out more.
)So what should I do in order to use my PS2 to rip games and play them off a hard drive?
Buy hdloader, network adapter, and a hd (80gb is a good.)
Note you won't be able to put a backup disc into your PS2 and rip a backup disc. You need a modchip if you want to do that. You can only rip originals.
This will probably cost you nearly $100. I rather get it modded with a Matrix Infinity.
