New Matrix Infinity 1.3 features
New Matrix Infinity 1.3 features –
10-11-2004,01:47 PM
Got my 1.2 firmware upgraded to the 1.3 this weekend (NTSC PS2 version 1). Looks like the Matrix team did certainly made some improvements. DVD Video now autoboots. I'm able to play Rocky Legends (PAL) without patching...just enable the new PAL 60 feature on the new firmware...although the screen display is slightly off-centered though.
I also tried installing HD Loader to my MC, doing what someone here has suggested...create another Infinity Manager CD, but replace the MANAGER.ELF with HDLOADER.ELF (rename HDLOADER.ELF to MANAGER.ELF), and perform the Infinity Manager installation. I popped in the original unmodded Infinity Manager CD, booted it up, replaced the CD with the modded CD and attempted to perform the installation. It didn't work. It said something about error in installing. I'm able to install the original Infinity Manager, but not HD Loader doing it this way. Anyone else have any suggestions? Also, if I didn't misunderstood reading the new features of 1.3, supposedly you can also boot off the hard drive directly? Also, you can install a BOOT.ELF file on the MC so that you can auto boot this as well? I'm thinking of doing this, but I can't find any documentation on how to do it.
My Maxtor 250gb drive and Sony network adapter is arriving this week...hopefully I can get everything ironed out. I can hardly wait to try this!

The new option to boot whatever mode you want is kewl. I have the Matrix Infinity boot DEV1 which I put HDLoader on there. So whenever I turn on my PS2 it boots HDLoader.

tony can you also boot in dev 1 by holding the r1 while booting?

Yeah... but why would I wanna hold down a button? I want to be able to turn my PS2 on and have hdloader load automatically from memory card without disc or button.
I use hdloader 99% of the time. But sometimes I play some PSX games so I don't like putting the hdloader disc in there and have to swap it out every time I want to play a psx game or movie. If I need to play a psx game or watch a movie, I just hold down O to force boot dvd movie/psx games.
There's a flaw in this system. The Matrix Team forgot to make a force boot PS2 games. I emailed them and they will add that into the next firmware release. I found a way around this flaw though. Hold down select to quick boot. =)

You have to make a directory in your memory card called BOOT. Then you have to rename hdloader or whatever elf you want Matrix Infinity to boot to BOOT.ELF.
What I did was ftp to my PS2 and did this. I didn't make a system.inf, install.inf and burnt a cd-r. I always ftp to my PS2 to make changes to it. I did this by using execftp.
Here's a good guide: http://lookatthemonkeys.com/html/ps2tut.html
They use the memory exploit. You could just install execftp.elf to memory card manager and lunch it from there and ftp to your PS2.
Want execftp? http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/...r=/ps2&.view=l
After all this you have to go into Matrix Infinity's configuration menu and change the boot method to DEV1 ofcourse.

Installing stuff with infinity manger is simple...all you do is burn a disk with the .elf and .cnf files....go into the infinity manger (turn on ps2 and hold down triangle) then wait for about a minute or more while the disk is read then hit install. Keep hitting install till it installs...you will get an error untill the disk is read. Be patient and it will install it

pieszbob1...do I need to put a SYSTEM.CNF file in the disk? If I got it right, the only thing I need is BOOT.ELF and INSTALL.CNF...correct? Ofcourse modify INSTALL.CNF to put the BOOT.ELF in the appropriate directory.
