new lasers...bs?
are the places that advertise new lasers bs?
i've read many times that sony did not release any spare lasers for anyone to buy so how do people get new lasers besides from ripping them out of new machines, which is by far the biggest bs i ever heard because who would want to strip out a new v7 or v9 fat ps2 when they can mod it and make more profit then selling the parts alone?
i need 5 400C lasers but i dont know who to buy from because there i have no experience in buying refurbished lasers. If anyone is experienced in refurbished lasers could they tell me the quality of them and how long they would last on good quality media?
thanks in advance

I'm in exactly the same boat... except that I've spent the money (a couple times) to try various sources for lasers. I have several that no matter what I do, just refuse to work. Got me now at the point where I turn away laser replacments... just not worth the hassle.

care to name these palces you've bought from so i can avoid them?

I picked up 5 from Rich's PSX Parts... 2 of 5 would not work.
I also got several from Terry, and 1 was toast.
I've also grabbed a couple via Ebay (some dude named James in Georgia)... neither worked. At least he was upfront and said they might not.
And, much to my surprise, console-corner screwed me on 3 for 3.
In my opinion only, lasers are a pain in the behind. Oh, and if anyone wants to try their luck on some "new" (apparently) lasers, I have 4 or 5. I turn away a lot of problematic consoles now... just going to focus on chips.
I don't think you should just avoid them... just understand that buying lasers is not an exact science. You might be okay with your purchases... or you might be like me, and get totally jaded about the process.

I do not know, but all lasers I purchased from some local dealers worked like a charm. I sold some 1-2 years ago, and they are still going strong. But to be honest I have some bad experiences with chips themselves. Some are sold as original, and you get a clone. Some do not work, and none replace them. Magic 3 was advertised as it's a superb, its clones were advertised the same way, and we all know what they are. (we all already had Messiah1 here in Europe that time, so seems we were cheated) Anyway, not to mention NH3 for example, bought 10 and 2 worked, 1 killed 5 machines and then I gave up playing with them. So not only lasers, everything has its ups and downs, no matter what we are talking about.

out of the 50+ lasers I have pyrchased I only had a problem with several HD7'S I purchased from dinineo China. Turns out they were used.
All the lasers I purchased from Richs worked exelent, with only adjudtments necessary to the angle and heigth.

All the lasers I have purchased have been brand new, and problem free, including HD7/400R. Perhaps I have just struck lucky with my supplier!!
