nope it still need's taps on reset or the control pad to select mode in effect a dms3 clone.

the matrix guys last that was heard was working on such fabled chip to auto detect all formats ps1 ps2 and dvd without any mode's just one for sleep.

To tickford:
difference between MA501 and new MA501D is that first one had problems with some games in v9/v10 thats why they updated from MA501 to MA501D.
And MARS PRO GM-603 is not appeared suddenly it was well planned , and it will available for sale in next week.
This is good alternative for DMS3 and cheap then DMS3.

These games that the MA501 didn't work with.....do you have a list???as I have done many MA501's without realizing their were issues.....so I'd like to be prepared when they come back.Are they originals or copies or both.

Well I heard,& also have a customer complaining about "rachet & clang" locking up the ps2.Can u confirm either way???

I didn't heard about that but anyway new 501D and 501C are working woth all games without any problem.
