I powered the board up withe the chip exposed, and measured 3.3v across the power/gnd points with a digital multimeter.
Ok, I'll give that a shot, thanks very much. Do you still do installs speed? I've seen some pics of your work, and it looks pretty seriously impressive.
Oh ok thanks man. I was afraid to attempt that. I didn't even know if it was possible once you set the power supply on top. I will try that also when I get home (make sure Im getting power to my chip also )

Also, make sure that you are using a digital multimeter, analog multimeters don't "float" and can cause damage to fragile electronics.
Ok, thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it.

achra - Your modchip is not defected. It's your laser
Go to that link the do the Adjusting the pots....Why dont you try CD=750 and DVD=800
Most of version 1 to 4, I had to change to laser 400-C (Free from Sony replacement befor I modded), the orginal laser is defected which Sony is willing to do a replacement free but they stopped doing that last year.
Also try Adjusting Lens angle (Pic look different on version) I will show you guys picture later
dude_son ...If your laser is not 400C, then you're ****ed up. I am working on another V7 but the laser shit. I will show you the picture to Adjusting Lens angle.
There is only one problem with your post... Shouldn't we at least get the "disabled" screen when we boot up the PS2 when holding in start? because thats not happening and that of course has nothing to do with the dvd drive. What do you think?
This is V7 with laser HD7 (Not 400 C type) Look at the black plastic on top of the laser (near laser eye). If you see HD7, it's ****ed up. The picture below is show how I adjust the angle. If you have 400 C type, then no need to worry. It took me couple hrs to make it works at certain angle.
I haven't successful to get its "Disable" with the Start button. But the other V7 last week works perfect.
Oh, so even if you can't get it to say "Disabled" the chip could still be working properly? Im taking apart my dvdrom right now to have a look. I will post back the result. Thanks Warlock.
And what do you mean by this? I have had many console here with the HD7 laser and never had any issues with them. The 400c does seem to be a better laser that can last longer but the HD7 lasers are just fine to as long as its still good. Not 100% sure what you man by your post.
