I have a new network adapter, but I am having a heck of a time connecting. Every time I try my intial connection it says that the test fails. I have a magic 3.1 modchip. I have tried to put the chip in sleep mode. Do I need to do this just to connect the first time. I have tried to hold the reset button for four seconds. When do I let the reset button go? What could I be doing wrong. Thanks.

The mod chip has nothing to do with getting the initial connection test to pass. Don't worry about sleep mode until you are actually booting an online game to play.

Are you connecting to a router? how are you setting it up... can't give an answer unless you provide the details.

I am connecting it directly to the modem. Would it be better to connect it to the router? Do I have to keep my main computer running?
I am using automatic connections. I read this on my service providers website that it would be the best way. I am at a loss. Thanks.
