Ok, so I bought a NEO12 modchip for my version 9 PS2 (I wanted something affordable ok). Like and idiot I tried to install it myself without any previous soldering skill. That was a mistake. I decided to just solder all the wires on the chip before pulling apart the ps. Well I was using slightly larger wire than reccomend. What happended was since the wire was thick it pulled the little metal conductor off the chip. Since the conductor is gone I really have nothing to solder to (duh). Does anyone out there know the layout of the chips and know where else I may be able to solder in order to get this damn thing working? I figure that those little conductors had to be leading somewhere - but where on the chip?

    Thanks,
    ONiON

well to burn off those pads you must be using a high watt soldering iron and must of left the iron on for quite a while...... doh.....

if you trace the circuit you should be able to see where they go
the picture is not very clear because of the light but it looks like the first one (RST) goes to the resistor (I think thats whats it is) just to the left and up a bit...
The second pad (A) goes to the bottom left pin of the chip above...

you could try soldering to those points BUT DONT use the iron you have used already lol.....

hhmmm... actually it was only a 15 watt iron but like I said I had little to no idea what I'm doing. The chip looked bigger in the picture Where are you getting these paths from? The picture? I know a diagram of the chip itself would be great. Anyway, I got the same results you did by looking through the chip but I really wouldn't want to throw it in the ps and hope to the dear Lord it works. I'd like to have it done professionaly. Hmm... so did you get those results by looking at the pic?

*EDIT* I seached for neo 12 diagram in google.... well I didn't find an actual diagram but I did find some installation instrctions. If you look at the pic you can almost clearly tell where those wires head to. I seem pretty comfident as to where they go. Now I just need to hope that nobody esd'd it while it was on the counter for months.

yes m8, thats the diagram I had a look at after your picture.......

you only hold the iron on for about 1 second at a time...

if you put flux on the pad first then apply a tinned wire you should have no problems...

PS: when soldering to the resister be carefull because you dont want to melt that !!!

    regards

Dude, just follow the line from the pad. I destroyed a pad on a neo12, the one in the corner, and I noticed many pads have another silver, circular (go figure) point somewhere further back. Just like connect the dots! ~~Now to hijack the thread~~ I just removed my neo12 from my v9, and I get no spin-up of the drive at all. I ohmed out the ribbon cables and checked the coils, all are good. I suspect the underside of the bios, thats where 9 of the pads soldered directly to. Any ideas folks?
