ok ive seen this on a couple threads, but not completely direct.

is the neo key like the neo 2.x chips, as it puts more voltage into the ps2s laser than it should? causing it to burn out faster?

my current asumption is yes....which leads to my next question.

Ive had my v4 ps2 for about 2-3 years. Literally, the first year i had it, i never used it. So id say ive been using it for about 16-25 months, at roughly 10-12 hours a week. Ive heard a normal, unaltered ps2s laser will last about 5-7 years depending on the use. If i calculated correctly....the neo key forces 1.5 times the voltage into the laser, so it will decay 1.5 faster. (this is just using logic, and probably wouldnt actually work, but its my attempt) So that means that have roughly 1.5 years left at this rate........

Now here comes the tricky part. Should i sell my ps2, and get a new one, then mod it with my Messiah 2, or just mod it now and save some money, time, and stress? I wont be playing it THAT much longer anyways, and if it does die out next year, the price will probably have dropped.

New ps2, mod it? Keep old one, mod it?

thx in advance for any feedback

i would keep the ps2, mod it, and if it does break down sometime in the future, the price of ps2s would probably be down. Buy a new one, take the messiah 2 out of your old ps2, sell your old ps2, and mod the new one with your old messiah2.

LOL Wouldn't it just be easier and cheaper to just replace the laser if it ever goes? $45 vs buying a new PS2, selling the old one with a dead laser at a substantial loss, plus the expense and hassle of swapping the chip out and in...

    Consider this:

It is always better to install a no-swap mod such as the M2 or Magic3 on the currently available PS2 model. My reasoning behind this statement is that if your PS2 then has problems, it will most likely be some component other than the motherboard (laser, DVD drive, etc...). You can buy a new PS2 and simply swap the motherboard (with the no-swap chip already installed) into the new system. Then you basically have a brand new no-swap modded system.

I did this with a V4 GT3 PS2 with the original Messiah. All of the components were old, worn, some damaged, but still working. I bought a brand new V4 1C and installed the GT3 motherboard into it, giving me a full no-swap system with all new components (except the motherboard of course). I then installed the new V4 1C motherboard in the sysem with the old components and gave it to a friend.

....or just buy a new laser, instead of a new console.

Are you saying that the Messiah2 will support future PS2 versions? I thought it had to be pre-programmed for it to be compatible with those versions. Look at the V6's. It actually does support it, but has to be enabled in auto configuration algorithm. Messiah presumed V6's were like V5's, so they didn't really do any V6 testing just like no one can test a V8+ since they ain't out yet.
