I am looking for the pinout for a Neo 2. Specifically, I am interested in pins Reset, 3.3v, GND, W, 5V. Can anyone help me out on this?
PIN #1 = supplies + (power) to the chip
PIN #2 = sends SCEx signal out to PS 2
PIN #3 = PS 2 drive tray pulse tells the BA5810FP chip whether to expect a drive tray open or close
PIN #4 = checks/signals RESET button on the PS 2
PIN #5 = closes PS 2 drive tray
PIN #6 = opens PS 2 drive tray
PIN #7 = checks if game CD is PSX/PS 2 (If PS 2, immediately stops SCE signal & restarts when a "tray close" is seen. If PSX, it stops after about 15-20 seconds)
PIN #8 = supplies ground to the chip
Thanks for the response, Charlie...however, please excuse my obvious ignorance as I am not an expert at any of this. I can make out that pin 1 is 5v, pin 4 is reset, and pin 8 is ground, but I am confused as to the others. The reason I ask is that I am still trying to get this Magic II working. I am convinced that it will never work in my console as it is, so I am going to try putting a Neo 2 in with it to see if it clears up my problems. I read another post on another forum where the poster mentioned doing the same thing and hooking up Reset, 3.3v, GND, W, 5V. Based on this info, the only two points I am confused about are 3.3v and W. Which pins on the Neo are these? Also, I posted the same question over on the other forum because this one was down for sometime and I was really hoping to get a quick response as I am sitting here with a warm soldering iron ready to go. Ignore the post on the other forum as you have already answered the question here.
The neo 2 does not have a 3.3v or a W line. What you read was the way to test a Magic 2 or the way to fix the faulty Magic 2 chips that would not boot PS1 games.
Anyway to more or less answer your question, if you wire your neo 2 as follows, it will boot PS1 games only.
Pin 1 +5v
Pin 2 (With the capacitor) to the S point
Pin 4 Reset
Pin 8 Ground
Hope that helps.
Thank you...thank you...thank you....exactly the info I was looking for. And yes, that is exactly the function I need. It appears the Magic II is having difficulty loading my PS1 games consistently so I was hoping to use the Neo to provide that functionality.
