Need some help with magic III modchip –
I've bought my ps2 already modchipped so I disassembled it today to look at the modchip and found out it was magic III.
What I want to do is disable the modchip to do some debugging, but unfortunately I don't know how. I tried searching on the internet but all I could find were installation guides. And please don't say remove the modchip because it's the last thing I want to do. It's really tiny and I'm afraid of messing things up.
So anyone know how to disable magic III?
So, you need that chip working and turned off??? (sorry, ispeakspanish)
That is no possible.
I need it to be installed and turned off. You sure it's not possible?
You always can cut or desolder two wires: gnd and 3v to deactivate the chip.
Or take that wires OUTSIDE and install some switches to turn on/off the chip.
I did something like that to change color frecuency in my fat 50.
I ve installed and deinstalled a lot of magic3(all its versions) and never knew a way to disable it as a matrix original or clone(pressing start button).
So this trick with the 3v and gnd will work for sure on my magic 3? Today I talked to a repair guy with 15 years experience with modding and he said he will get that modchip out only on my responsibility, he said he can't be responsible if the ps2 stops working if he gets the modchip out, because often the ps2 can stop working when the modchip is removed.
He said it was risky.
What's your experience?
THREE MINUTES is all you need to take completely OFF that chip!!!!(disassembly console is harder)
Your ps2 will never stop working! that smell like FEAR to me.
15 years of what???
Look for someone else, please.
And install a MATRIX (modbo4) and you can turned it off by pressing START at beggining.
Sorry, i get mad when some "technician" say s**t like that to the people...
I never worked that way, i enjoy teaching people how their consoles work.
hehe it's ok
I know it takes only a few minutes but I really don't want to toy with removing the modchip, I don't have the appropriate tools nor the money to buy a new ps2 if I break this one.
I just need to try and disable the modchip just to test something out, what you said about the ground and 3v wires sounds good, I only ask if you were sure it would work on my modchip?
Thanks for all your help
It works in every existing chip, dont worry.
If you want specific tips just post good fotos from your installation.
If you arent sure, just try, cutting at the midle(or not so close to solder points) of those wires and tape them.
That way you can reconnect them when you desire it (i told you about that, takin outside that connection, extending the wires outside to avoid disassamble your console every time).Just think and dont crosse wires.
Maybe its sound TOO EASY for me because i work every day with consoles, but if you are a logical mind it would be easy for you too.
I know someone reading this will say: WTF are this guy taking about!!!?, but i understand your situation and hope you succeed, just do it , its a small step for me but a big jump for you.
For disabling Magic III: Just turn on your ps2 holding the reset button for 4 seconds.
Well because it was simpler and faster I tried disabling the modchip by holding the reset button like cegazza said and it worked, but didn't bring me better results with my test.
So I wonder is there a difference between Player1's and cegazza's method?
Is there a difference between:
a)disabling the modchip by holding the reset button 4 seconds
b)physically cutting the power supply to the modchip
c)removing the modchip completely
What do you think?
