Need immediate help –
10-20-2004,05:40 PM
Ok guys, I need a bit of help asap.
I want to do a mod on a V4. My main question is, does every version from 1-10 read backed up videos. If not, is there any other way I can test the drive to see if it is good before I attempt a modchip in it, to realize that it won't read the disks.
Don't want to mod it if the laser won't read the disks. So if every version ps2 reads video backups fine, then that gives me a muich clearer picture on this specific station if it will read or not read backups after the install.
Help please. Thank you

i find the easiest way to test it is, try ANY dvd-r disc, whether its a games backup or just a data disk,
Put it in, listen to the drive, if there is a lot of clicking then you have problems... also the PS2 should go to the RED SCREEN "please insert ps2 format disc" pretty quickly..
But chances are, a V4 laser will need a clean realistically

Thanks a lot for the reply.
I cleaned the laser in this unit and it still didn't read anything. I tried the diagnostics and still nothing. I also read on a site that any version from 4 until recent should NOT have the voltages changed for the laser? true?
When I put the disk in it makes a lot of noice like it's really really trying to read it but it just won't boot.
Thanks a lot for the reply

I have seen a lot of V4s that need pot adjustment, Only do this if you know how to use a multimeter. never go less than 600 Ohms or so

Thanks for the reply. So it's fine to adjust the pots on a v4. Ok, do you know any tutorials on how to do it. I know how to use a multimeter but I need instructions on what to ajust and how to do it and what point to use the multimeter on to check the status.
Also, I just tried for the heck of it to see if it reads a vid backups and it actually did. It only does it sometimes though, sometimes it reads after I click on browser but sometimes I get the disk rear errror.
What would you guys do in a situation like this? would u mod it? adjust the pots and mod it? or leave it alone. I just don't want future problems like the guy calling telling me it's not reading disks and issues like that.
