Need help deciding on a modchip –
I've spent about the past hour lurking about on the forums.
I have a SCPH-90001 (the newest model) with date code 1B, which I assume means it is newest of the new.
I'm in the market for a modchip so I can play backup PS1/PS2 games, price is really not an issue for me. I just want to know which allows me to do the most.
I was reading about the PS2 DUO 3 Ultra, which would allow me to play games right off the bat, and I could disable the chip by holding down the reset button, which is also a plus to me.
I wanted an 'expert' opinion on the matter before I decide to make the jump and get my hands dirty.
i have a slim ps2, and i use the duo3.. dont think its ultra
the only issue with it, is that you have to power off the system to switch between types of media.
the system will reset itself into psone mode when it recognizes a psone disc, so if you put in a ps2 disc when your done and hit reset it wont work. it needs a power off to work right. small inconvenience. i didnt even know thats what was going on for a long time, but ya.
also, i am not sure if it was how the person installed the chip, but my network card doesnt work, so i cant use a crossover for SMB games on network. it makes me want a second ps2 just for the network connection.
i will, also, however, state that Dual layer games work fine on my duo 3 as long as you patch them with toxic dual layer patcher.
and i burn all my discs on good quality DVD+R and CD-R with alcohol 120 program (ive used other programs before like imgburn and whatnot, and got laggy games with the same media... also i burnt a few psone discs with clonecd that would not load, but i burnt them with alcohol 120 and they did)
