i recently bought a ps2 from china and brought it back to new zealand, first i tried playing ps2 backups(the dvd rom ones) atleast i think they are backups because they only cost around $10 to buy each game anyways i had no problem getting em to work, lol funny thing is i didnt even have to buy a mod-chip!
after that i tried putting in a backup psx ntsc j game and it didnt work, i put in a pal original psx game and it still didnt work.
Someone help me please!

press and hold reset till the eject light turns on....most of the chips work that way

just turn it back off, and wait 5 seconds so the chip resets

lol, i heard that before chinese retailers sell their ps2s, most retail stores mod them with a messiah2 hk and put them back in their original box.
Grr... everyone in China are playing with modded ps2s.
It'd be kinda nice if every ps2 were retail pre-modded in the US.
No way, no how. In the U.S., MONEY RULES (the foundation of a capitol republic) and SONY has enough to make their own laws, and they'd do anything to stop that from ever happening. Hell, I heard they got the U.S. to pass a new LAW that claims that the data on the discs is "indestructable by nature", making it illegal to make backups of your own store bought cd's and dvd's, even though you legally own them. Well I can find dozens of ways to destroy a plastic disc, they sure dont seem "indestructable" to me. Sony runs the us government the same way the chinese got highest level white house access...THEY PAID FOR IT.
they do it here in Malaysia as well. most of the a game shop's stock of PS2's are pre-moddified with a Messiah 2 (they're all about quality here in Malaysia, too many complaints from Magic3 and the M2 clones), alternatively if you're a cheapskate or (like me) provide your own chips, if you go to the right shop they'll install for you on site within an hour, you can even watch if you like.
BEWARE however, it is common practice in SOME places to swap the original laser unit with a third party version. Though this is not particularly common anymore (only for a short while, they don't do it anymore, over here at least), i don't know whether if that's the case in china and greater china. BTW alonelysob, for $10 i could buy 10 hk dvd silvers here ;). So yeah i guess you were hit with the usual "OMG! White Man! Marney Time!" :p.

I guess that having said, I actually make money by modding ps2s with a nominal fee for my fellow students.
