Need advice on v9 ps2 –
07-23-2004,10:14 AM
I modded a v9 ps2 4 (maybe more) months ago with a dms3 (no romeo mod).
It worked like a charm but now the ps2 can't boot any media (keeps saying reading disc in the browser). I opened the ps2 and checked every wire and they are all fine so i guess it's the LA chip.
But before i replace the la chip i want to know if it will not die again with the current laser. The laser is measuring coil 1: 1.8 ohms coil 2: 5.5 ohms.
So what should I do... Only replace the la chip or the laser also ?
Thanx

Laser as well. 1.8ohms is horrible. 4-5 is good. Replace both.

But will the la chip (with romeo mod) die again if I don't replace the laser ?

No. You should have done the Romeo mod in the beginning and save yourself some money. With the Romeo mod there's not enough voltage for the LA chip to burn itself. 5v is not enough. I have NEVER heard of anyone with the Romeo mod who had their LA chip + laser die.

Well at the time I installed the chip there was no romeo mod
Anyway I will replace the LA chip and hope the laser is still good enough to play some games...

No it can't. Replace the laser. 1.8ohms on the coil 1 is horrible. Replace the laser.
