Ned help with a couple 'laser killer' PS2s
I have a couple PS2s here (PAL V10 & V11) whose lenses stopped reading DVDs.
I tried readjusting them but I had no luck.
Both lenses have 'good' coils, with readings between 5.1 and 5.5
This week I got a Sony refurbished PS2, a V7, which, as the other two problematic PS2s, used a KHS-400C lens.
I began testing each lens on each console. The new one (from the refurbished PS2) seemed to work well in all of them. Not son with any of the other two, even after I adjusted the older lenses exactly as the new one.
I ended leaving the new lens on my favorite Aqua PS2.
At first try, it seemed to work alright. I did further tests and upon seeing that some DVDs skipped a little bit, I decided to tweak the install a little bit (with the wheels on the optical block which move the lenses up and down).
The outcome was that not only didn't it improve, but it doesn't read any DVD.
The current situation is that I have three PS2s with seemingly not working lenses.
I don't have an oscilloscope, thus my tests are all trial & error.
Could it be that some (if not both) of my original PS2s have a dead LA6508 which is killing any lens which I try on them?
I thought it was the other way around, a faulty lens killing the LA6508.
Is there anyway I can make sure the LA6508s are fine other than replacing them?
BTW, of the two V10 & V11, both were initially chipped, on of them had the romeo mod. I removed entirely the chip on the PS2 which didn't have any fix applied, as to try it as close to a stock as possible, but the results were the same.
This is where I am now at. Any hint from those more knowledgeable and with more experience than me would be welcome :-)
