n00b question
Hi,
I'm sure this hsa been posted many times, and asked as well, but the ones that I have found don't really satisfy my question.
I'm looking ot Mod my PS2 (I have 2 of them, one I got off ebay believing it was a dead PS2 only to find out it works fine, so I'm modding it). The PS2 I'm modding is a SPCH-50001/N V9 (date code 3C, my other one is 3B, which is newer/what's the difference?).
I have seen there are many chips out there to mod to, the DSM4-Pro, the CC, and the Matrix Infinity are the main ones I see.
of the 3 what are the features of the Chip, I can only seem to find specs on the DSM. What are the benefits, and which do you think is the best and why compared to others.
Thanks for the info, I gonna try and see if i can get it modded this weekend in Chinatown in NYC, since I'm headed that way for the weekend.

CC and Matrix Infinity are pretty much the same. CC has an open source firmware which is always nice because the end-user may edit the chip if he knows how. I'm not a big fan of the PMS4 series because the makers are not really people you would want to be working on your firmware updates. They might drop the project and move on to whatever that makes money and leave you dry, like they did with PMS3 series.

ok, now the DSM 4 has something like Toxic OS, as what I can read about it, does the Matrix and CC have the same thing? as well as the HDD read/load/install etc. etc.?

You don't need Toxic OS, Crystal chip has something similar called Boot Manager and Matrix has something called Infinity Manager but yeah, you don't really need it. It's just a place to configure your chip. Crystal Chip and Matrix Infinity does not come with HDLoader but you can always find it online easily. It is compatible with HDLoader though.

HDLoader is a seperate CD I need to buy right?
What are the other features of CC and Matrix? Is there a list like there is of DSM4? I kinda like the idea that you can put elfs and homebrews directly onto the chip and not need to load it first, with the support of HDD browsing, Installing/Playing, etc. and Media playing, I just don't know if there are any out there wiht OGM and MKV support yet, I know there is DivX and XVid.

They are pretty much the same. You can get hdloader off the net but dont ask for it here. Yes there is a feature list. There are no ogm support since we need a codec and software. Plus hdloader patches can make it just as advanced as toxic os. For a 50001/n you will need to install a romeo mod which prevents it from burning the laser apart. The link for it is http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserV9.htm/
I hope this helps.
