N00b needs help

Ok, I am completely new to modding and I just have a few questions.

1) Can you download ROMs from other systems (ps1, SNES, NES, etc.) to the hard drive and play them?

2) Can you rip Ps2 games onto the hard drive?

3) If no to the above, then what can the chips do?

4) Which one is the best one, and how hard are they to install?

5) Is there anything else I need to know?

Oh yeah, almost forgot. How do I check my PS2 version?
