My XO-2 came, but DOESN'T WORK... –
I got my XO-2 this morning from Lan-Kwei and proceded to install it in my v7 39001 '2C' NTSC PS2. Brand-new PS2 that plays DVDs/Games perfectly. I install it. It fails to work. Mind you I've installed 3 neo2.2's, 2 magic2's & many psx chips.
I used heavy-guage, multi-stranded wire for the 3.3v & Ground wires, no prob there. I put the chip up&right from the bios [one edge covers 3 orange pads], so long wires to the bios can't be the prob. Could there be a prob with long wires to any other point? The B/C wires use the hole next to the alt. dvd points [next to the 'legless' chip], so fairly long. I never had 'sinking via's [holes]' with the 2 magic2's, nor with this chip, unless when they sink the only difference is no conductivity between sides [no visual damage]. All this points to a good install...
I slapped it together w/o cover, then set it up. It already had GTA3 original in drive so I tried that. Failed, so I removed it to boot as per instructions. Failed. I tried dvd-r/cd-r ps2 backups & psx backups, but all failed. Drive makes no funny noises. PS2 was not miss handled.
Took apart, all looked the same so I did a FULL ohm test on all points - between wire ends, chip points, bios legs, you name it. All were fine. I resoldered B/C because I thought the metal shield may have crushed/dislodged them a bit. Reassembled and arived where I was before: DOA XO-2 CHIP
There might be other minor [positive-only] things I may have forgot. Chip came wrapped in styrofoam-like pad in padded envelope, should be noted this was ordered on the 22nd & most likely sent the day of the 'HK Raid'. I'm wondering if it was sent knowing that it was dead, but others say Lan-Kwei is reputable.
UPDATE: Booting holding reset till blue light comes on allows original PS2 games to boot, other than that...

Done about 5 of the X0-2s now eveyone worked the v5 and the v7. On the v7 PS2 (B) and (C) were had at the same points (B) and (C) hookup on the magic 2 for the v7 PS2. You should have also tried disconnecting the (Z) wire and see if that made a differance. The 4 controller wires D,E,H and I are long and this does NOT seem to be a factor. Also the 3.3volt connection was had in the same place the Magic 2 v7 diagrams indicate on one end of the capacitor. The resistor bank the X0-2 diagrams inicate for the 3.3v is kinda ricidy.
When did you order the chip and which shipping did you use?
I ordered my X0-2 on Sep 7 and I haven't received it yet. I use airmail. It should only take 7-10 days max.
I think this chip is DOA, and always has been. I did all the mods you mentioned above, LOD, but no change in status. I'm sure its something stupid thats wrong since originals boot ONLY by holding reset till blue light apears, yet nothing is working. If my goal was to waste time, I'd be 100% on target.
I was wondering about the Z points between the M2 & XO-2 diagrams: the M2 has it below the reset [when bios is on bottom], but the XO-2 uses the point next to the reset point. BTW I removed Z but no change. Looking closer at the ground/3.3v wire, its 26awg multistranded. I think 22 was 'suggested use', but once again today I can't find the thread/info I need. I'm gonna put a cap on the S wire next tomorrow, maybe that will help.
As for getting in touch with Mike, I think he's swamped with 'was my order shiped?' & the like since the Sony invasion dissaster, so it might take a while to get a response.
edit: I used EMS Speedpost [like always from HK], and I ordered it on the 22nd.

Did I understand correctly? Did you solder X0-2s [B] and [C] points to Magic2 [B] and [C] points? I was thinking if doing so could be functional (to avoid VIA's in X0-2s installation) but if you've already done that and it worked, that would be the answer!!

I've tried both locations & tested the via's & points below chip to make sure m2 B&C were same as XO-2 B&C. No luck. Maybe I'll add a second 26awg wire to ground & 3.3v, see what happens. I'm sending an email to Lan-Kwei today about a replacement.
Maybe this chip is just a late blumer
Doubled up the Ground & 3.3v wires, but no change. Lan-Kwei also hasn't emailed me back. I think I'm just gonna break down and buy a Magic 2 from modchip.ca. Lan-Kwei can take it up the butt as far as I care. Perminately lost my business.
Give them a chance, they're just slow with replies now. How much are you paying for the Magic 2 from modchip.ca?
Lan-Kwei is currently responding emails at a rate of 4 or 5 days (at least for me), just wait a little longer.
Remember they have some troubles right now, and because of that the communication takes a little longer than before.
well, I received the XO-2 chip for my v7 39001 '2b' US PS2 3 days ago (they sent it the 26 of sept), and just installed it today and I'm in the exactly same situation than HiProfile, wont boot anything but originals only if I keep pressed reset till blue light comes on. I also double checked every connection, I have plenty of experience soldering so I'm sure my connections are ok. I'm not perfect so I may have something wrong but if anyone can point us to the right solution please do so. I just sent an e-mail to Lan-Kwei but they wont answer me till several days after probably, with all the back log e-mail they said they have.
