My modchip or my ps2?
lately (as in the last year) my ps2 has been dying. it took more and more tries for me to get some games started up, and it stopped being able to read certain brands of DVD+Rs. It has had absolutely no problem with CDRs or real games (except xenosaga ep1 .. but that's a DVD9 disc.. tear). Ever since my brother dropped a cup on my ps2 a month or two ago it has been on a very thin thread, and I'm afraid it's at the end of the line now :( (unless i want to play CD games.. or my real copies)
When I try to run my DVD games (backup ones) I get the "please insert a ps2 disk" error.. CDs load up pretty fast and my non backup DVD games take a little longer tahn the CDs.
So I was just wondering if it was my ps2 laser or my modchip? :O
I gots a Magic 3.1 modchip and the network adapter version PS2 (serial code starts with AU). My ps2 is about... 4 or 5 years old now.
anyway, thanks in advance :O
It's your laser for sure. The reflective index is not a good as original DVD's, hence your ps2 can't read it anymore....where before was okay because laser was better before. You got to clean that laser man. Well from sounds of it you're dvd diode is crapping out dude. The reason is plain and simple...you play more dvd based games than CD....correct? That's why your laser is dying on ya.
same thing happened to me...after i got it modded it just died after about 6 months...did not boot a single thing. I adjusted the laser a bit (v4) and had it booting originals and cds with the odd backup so i decided to whack a hard drive in it and ive never looked back
Hmm, alright thanks guys...
yeah, i play a lot more DVD games than CD games <_<
I'd use the hard drive thing but it has skipping issues on stuff, which is kinda icky :X and i don't have an external HD.. oh well.
I guess.. since it's that dead I will try to mess around with the laser :X
The other day I was messing with it again (moved the white wheel to change the distance between the laser and the disc) and i got it to show the ps2 logo screen stuff on my DVD games, but then after that it went to the red screen.
and yeah, cleaning the lens used to work all the time before.. oh well.
Yikes, having your thing die out in 6 months? :( that sucks.
Anyhow, thanks again :O I'll see if i can get out of these evil problems or not later
