is my magic 3.1 trash
the ground and 5v medal pad came off of my chip!!! the same think happened before on a different point and i just soldered it to the small pin on the center of the chip, but can i do this with the 5v and grnd??? If so, where can i put the 5v at, i see a couple potential spots for it but i just want to double check.....thanx if the chip is trash: does anyone know where i can get a cheap magic 3.1 overnight?
u can put it straight on the chip
There's an alternate 5v on the Magic 3/3.1. To the right of the 5v point is a vertical pad just above the IC. That's also 5v as well as pins 3, 4, and 15. You can follow the trace from the 5v pad to the vertical pad & pins 3 & 15. On some of the Magic chips, pins 3 & 4 have a noticable bridge which appears like a solder splash. However, both pins are 5v.
With the Ground pad, you can also follow the trace to see it's connected to pin 14. Additionally, pin 1 is also ground.
I've checked all these points with a multimeter.
I suggest you try the vertical pad for 5v and pin 14 for ground.
