Is my Magic 2 faulty?
Is my Magic 2 faulty? –

I installed a Magic2 V7 underline in a 3001R V5 ps2 following charlie_ps2's guide. Used wire that came with chip from modchip.ca and used 22awg for recommended points. First try gave me a black screen, eject and power button worked. I checked all troubleshooting tips in charlie_ps2's post. I pulled out my multimeter and checked for bridges, there were no bridges. Sooooooo, I uninstalled the chip and powered up the ps2, everything was working fine. Re-installed the chip and I get a black screen again. If a game is inserted, I do see the drive spinning. Triple checked all bios connections PONM and QTUVR for bridges. What else can I try besides re-installing for a third time? TIA

It sure sounds like you have wires on the wrong pins of the bios. Been there and done that already. It just comes up black. Just make sure everything is on the correct points. Also, not having power will do the same thing too.

theres numerous things that could be causing that (murphy..)
Anything from a fried component to some kind of interference.
If you don't know what things may be wrong, I wouldn't risk it a just take it to a pro.

You need to read my post in the FAQ entitled Magic 2 behaviour.
The v7 Magic 2 is incompatible with the v5/v6 PS2. You need the "R" chip version.

Thanks charlie_ps2. I ordered the chip mid august and didn't receive it until the middle of September. Between now and then, I must have missed the compatibility issue. I thought it was just an issue playing ps one games. I wish i would have known this before I tried to install it. Thanks for everone's help, I'll try to get a replacement this week.
