I installed a DUO chip into a V1 with 010 gap BIOS recently. I began testing with an original DVD game:
1st attempt: DVD original (ATV offroad fury) boots 1st try
2nd attempt: CD original ( X-Squad) boots 1st try
3rd attempt: DVD-r backup ( Kingdom Hearts) boots 1st try / watched whole intro scene with no lockups that occured with early magics.
4th attempt:CD-r backup ( Frogger: the great quest) boots 1st try
5th attempt: DVD movie... boots 1st try
6th attempt: Music CD ... boots 1st try
also tried GTA Vice city since there was an issue with magic 2/ 3.0 and had no probs with it either.
So, you see, even with an old V1 and tired laser it booted everything I tried.. 1st time, everytime. YAY! another happy customer
I loved the fact that I did a V1 console without desoldering the power supply from the mainboard and only 2 DVD controller legs to be soldered !
The chip is my new favorite. I did install it into a V7 also and had perfect results with that one too.
All testing done by me was on NTSC/ US consoles.
One thing i did wonder is if anyone knows if we can add an external switch to this chip as I did on the Magic3.0's to allow the game to boot then turn off the chip and play backups on DNAS servers.
Sorry, I forgot that I tested PS1 games also and they worked fine but I forgot to try a mod protected game . I am sure the PSX mod protection is not defeated or it would be advertised as a big selling point.
