Do you put solder on the wire and then solder it to the point?
Do you use a really fine iron?
carefully put flux on one point at a time?
A multimeter is a very useful tool for this sort of work as well especially if you find yourself having to troubleshoot errors. I don't know what sort of wire you are using for the DVD/IC pionts but it does make a big difference to use the 32 AWG enamled copper wire. strip the wire apply some flux and then touch it to some molten solder. Apply some flux to the point that you intend to solder and then hold the wire over it. Hold the iron on top of the wire for less then 1 second and VOILA! You should have a good join. If not then retry.
