More problems with bootup

We'll, some people might have read my other thread regarding the chip install in a V2 ps2. Anyway, it booted up fine but it just wouldn't read any disks (goes to the dashboard)

I fully removed the chip and cleaned all of the point with braid and I tried booting it up without the chip installed and it won't boot.
Nothing displays on the screen and the laser makes a little tick noise. When I shut it off and put it in standby it makes that noise again but a bit longer this time.

Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong?

short/bridge of of solder on the cd/dvd controller ( chip with tiny thin pins ).
