More DMS3 v.2 Issues -- Help!

Ok, I'm a newbie and this is my first post.

I ordered 2 DMS3 v.2 (blue PCB) chips and installed them onto 2 PS2 (NTSC) v.7s.

The first installation worked fine.. tested with DVD (US) Originals, DVD-rips (US), and PS1 (US) backups. Everything worked.

For the second machine, I used the same discs as above for testing. Results: DVD originals work fine, the PS1 backup (the only one I have) freezes after the initial PS1 logo at the black screen. This is also happening with several other specific DVD-Rips (always the same ones).

Notes:

1) Installation should not be the issue. Soder points appear to OK under magnifying glass. All connections were tested with a voltmeter to ensure that connections were solid.

2) Installation was also clean. No splashes / cross connections to other soder points.

3) The PS1 iso was tested and worked fine with ePSXe. So the ISO is not the issue.

I'm getting too many failed boots for my taste.. perhaps it's a bad chip? Is there something I'm overlooking? Does anybody have any other ideas?

I don't have access to the first PS2 anymore, so I can't do additional testing.

Well, he stated that it's 2 blue DMS3, so a bad chip is not likely to be the cause since those are from the 2.0 revision. And your ISO is not OK just because you can boot it under ePSXe but since it work on the other PS2 I guess a bad ISO is out of question. I have 2 PSX backup that freeze after the PS logo on all PS2 I've tryed so it's not the DMS3 fault IMO. You should try with another PSX backup.

he says theres one that worked same exact model and already sent it out and thise one has a problem

Thanks for the reply folks. I've tried 2 other PS1 backups, one worked while the other did not.

FYI, I've upgraded firmware to v.1.2. Same issues. DMS3 Explorer has not been installed.

Also, this may help, but I can't seem to disable the DMS3 chip. When the PS2 is on standby (red light), I turned the machine on by pressing the eject button for 1 second. But when I put in DVD-Rips (the working ones), the game actually loads... I don't think this is normal. Any clues?

Maybe you used the (messiah/magic) reset point where you should have used the eject point.

Durkie, I double checked all the connection points.. I have them the connected according to the images on the DMS3 site. My first install worked fine with the same eject point too, so that shouldn't be the problem. I run about 70% of the stuff I have.. the ones that do load are fine. Very odd.

also did u check the trouble shooting guide?

The trouble shooting guide has a few ideas with regards to authentication failure for either PS1 or PS2, black screens, etc. Since I'm able to boot the majority of my stuff, I think the install is fine. I'll try replacing the chip and see if it helps. I'll post the results when that's done.
