Modchips And the DEAD v9 Situation

A scare has broken out in the modchip world. Seems the modchips we hold sacred are damaging the 50k series of PS2's. Here is the pertinent information regarding dead v9 PS2's.

Reported chips with problems:
1. The Matrix MXL2
2. Mars II MA-501
3. Messiah 2 1.31

The PAL Region is mostly affected. UK, Europe, South Africa and New Zealand.

Reported Reason's for failure:
1. PS2 Manufacture Defect - Poor Discrete Components Used (LA/LB CHIPS) or Missing Thermal Transfer Pad.

2. Poorly Written Modchip Code - This could have a ripple effect if everyone is stealing code. Corrupting the on board User settings EEPROM.

3. Installer Error - Metal case not fully screwed down or the wires were run improperly.

Yes people pandemonium is abound. The debate continues over the KILLER modchips at PS2NEWZ. We see many of the avid M2 bashers come out of the woodwork on this one. Yes everyone is welcome to a point. If the bashers believe the M2 is a poor chip don't fret resellers will not buy it if it is crap. It would be like trying to sell a NEO 4 to someone. If there is problems hDl & Charlie_PS2 need to address them if the chip is ever to last. And if it turns out that the code is the cause Charlie_PS2 and hDl better run and hide. Doh! It seems the Messiah 2 is the chip mostly in question. I myself have yet to have a problem with a dead v9 PS2 but I work on NTSC consoles and have yet to put in a M2 in a v9. Done about 10 now. 2 were Mars II chips and the rest Magic V 50k's. No problems yet (Writing with fingers crossed). In PAL Regions Reports go back and forth from UK installers of the M2. Some saying they have had no problems and others saying the M2 has killed every v9 PS2 it was installed in to. Who should we believe? You?re asking me? Hell if I know. There is one thing I do know this thread will be dedicated to real information about this matter. ALL flamer posts will be DELEATED. Flamers will also be banned! I hate sifting through pages of petty bullshit fighting it?s too much to read to get to the facts. Terminator-0 and valakos have done a good job collecting Data and they are commended on their efforts. Others should follow their lead so we can all figure this one out. So please collect data as others have done and post it here.

Installed 3 pal 5k4 ps'2 .
1 silver with a m2 1.31 a month ago.
1 black with a m2 1.31 a month ago.
1 black with a m2 1.33 2 weeks ago.
Soldered the via's & implementes the ntct/pal colour fix on all 3.
Used enammelled copper wire (0.2 mm) for all connections exept 3v5 & gnd.
Havn't had any problems yet.

Bios mixed ( MX . 110 )
Laser mixed ( sony , HD7 )
I use kynar wire for all wires exept GND , Vcc
All solder in CD/DVD controler legs ( exept 5 mars in vias ).
No reported any problem from my costumer (yet).
I thing iam happy.

New Unmoded PS2 do same read CD|DVD Sounds like moded dead PS2 .

no he saying he bought 6 ps2 at same time
5 chipped and and died (not read anything)
6th 1 died while he was testing it still unopened with seal on it same symptons,wouldnt read anything

he also says none of the lb chips had heatsinks on them

i have many v9 out there without heatsinks on the lb also m2 all living

yes i put a heatsink on the lb now,since all this started its better to be on the safe side then not

Someone in the closed post about this asked about the resetting of the time / date etc, i would have thought that the removal of the backup battery would achieve this.

What is the best material for replacement ( or for missing 0 heatskin pads ).
Also I report that the pds they is half and no full ( is 1/2 of full).
I think a good idea is the replace the half pads with another material highter quality.

The question is : WHAT IS THIS MATERIAL AND WHERE CAN I FOUND.
