ok, thats cool and all but
    1. there is no power button , do you mean the reset button or eject button.
    2. Has any one tried playin games online, is so what happened.
    3. whay will happen if I go online with the chip on.
    4. ps2 doesnt have a Hard drive so there is no way sony can read your bios or anything else? correct
    5. How can they tell if you are playin a backup if the backup is a direct copy. Now I can see if it was a rip or something but I am talking about direct copies.
I just want to know if anyone has tried going online with a backup, and what happened. I dont think sony can read your system like MS did to Xbox.

I have one last question I have the new sony dru500a and how do you record with record now. does anyone have a walk through. and whats the best media to use

Arrrrrrrrrrr, unlike Micro$oft, Sony did not set up their own network you connect to. You connect with yer own ISP. The online games are hosted by their own servers...so it would actually be up to the individual game you are playin. I know fer a fact that the NBA game works online...I was over a shipmate's house the other night, playing his backup online without any a problem. So far I haven't seen any a player get banned, so I haven't. Now I ain't a sayin' it isn't gonna happen at all...maybe in the future game companies will do something like that....who knows!

As of now, there arent any games that will detect the modchip. except everquest (i think), but that was a beta test, and isnt available to the public anyway. The games that already have online play, dont have the ability to check for a modchip.

what the online games will do, is detect anything soldered to the SCEx point, and assume its a modchip, and so it will not work. its not a bios detection.

i explained above how it detects the chips, but im pretty sure they cant check to see if its a backup. once the game has booted, the ps2 knows its an original, because non-originals wouldnt boot, correct? but since the chips allow backups to boot, it wont know that its a backup since it has already booted

    hope this helps

For everquest, you have to register your copy before you can start a game, hence you need a unique serial number. So effectively, you need to buy the game to play. But we all buy our games anyway, and only use our backup copies to protect the original media.

I haven't heard any reports of modchip detection, and there wasn't any in the beta. But honestly, I wouldn't bother with the game. The graphics suck, and gameplay is horribly repetitive.

And it require you to pay a monthly fee on top of the price of the game. But I've heard that some people with mod chip didn't have any problem playing the game. And since you need to get a serial number to play, even if you burn the game, it won't do you much good unless we find a way of playing on un-official server someday lile they did at some point of the Everquest PC history if I remember correctly.
