Which modchip for me?!

Heya all,
I just got interested in all this stuff recently b/c i got a dvd burner. Kewl site and forum here. Very busy, very active. I like that.

Anyway, I'm still a newb about modchips tho. And I need help finding which is the best modchip for me.

I have a scph30001 (v4). All I've seen so far is the magic 3.1, dms3, messiah2 pro, and magic V. magic 3.1 seems to be the most prevalent and abundant so I was sorta leaning towards getting that one. We'll see tho. What do you guys suggest?????!

Well first of all, welcome to the forum,

Second, we don't discuss backups or where we get them, pm me for more on this...

As for the modchips, your gonna get different responses on that, this forum is pretty divided campwise as to which is the best, but all have the same basic function and result. Messiah is tried and true and a big fav, magic is a little easier to install if your a noob, but your V4 is gonna be kind of a hassle for u not matter what chip, the DMS has more bells and whistles but is more $. My magic works fine, but your real issue is going to be weather your old V4 laser is gonna read your cool DVD burns. Those lasers are pretty old right about now and probably will not read a DVD+, maybe a DVD- but the chances are slim, check the forum for more on this.

If you have the extra cash for a new V7 i really would opt for that with anychip, easiest install best results for reading media. Goood Luck!

if you want something GREAT with the highest success boot rate with all games, by all means go for Messiah 2.
if you want some extra stuff that the DMS3 has like multiregion and booting from the memory card in a boot mode without a psx disc, go for the Ripper 2 Delux or if you're rich and don't want a clone, then DMS3.

I pretty much agree with all of the above cept I wouldn't touch the magic...

If you have the $$ and would actually use the extra features, then the DMS3 is the top chip for now.

But if you just simply want the ability to boot games then the Apple Pro or the Messiah2 are the go - don't bother with the magic due to reliability on game boot and other issues I have heard mentioned.

Plus if price is an issue they chips sit as follows from cheapest to most expensive:
Apple Pro (equivalent to Messiah2 V1.30)
Magic3.1
Messiah2 V1.30
DMS3

Personally - which ever chip you can afford and is easiest to get out of the Apple Pro / Messiah2 / DMS3 - would all do a good job.

But take heed of the above warning on your laser - the older the station the more likely you will have a hard time getting your back ups working!
