My magic chip is dying as we speak. It never played ps1 discs. I need something that plays ps2 dvd, dvd9, dvdr, dvd and ps1 games. Dvd is sort of irrelvent. I will need to use my action replay.

Hey bro... which version console are we talking about?
You'll note that the chips of choice lately include the DUO2 and the Infinity. I still have Magic5's and Messiah2's in stock, and love them too. Just a couple more wires than the first two.
What kind of $$ are we looking at for those? It was mfr'd late 2001.
Oh, on a side note....what chips did you have to break traces? I noticed that this was something on another thread. I'm hoping I don't have to make any new connections.
dms3 all the way...although the DUO and Infinity would probably work just as fine. I have a dms3, and can tell you its great. Get it professionally installed unless you really know what youre doing. From what ive been told, the dms3 is one of the hardest chips to install.
The only hard thing is the D & E wire. Because those wires are sensitive and they must be guided along the flat surface of the board or wrapped with ground wire. Other than that it's not that hard...Quote:

The duo is an excellent chip and a great choice, will play all backups just fine. Will need to make sure to do the color fix for pal games, if your tv supports them, that is.
If you have a version 1-8, try and find the original duo chip, they will be slightly cheaper than the duo2's, and will work just as well.
Good luck.
Pal Fixing is not really a problem. I'm stateside for a while.
i think the 3 best chips right now are the DMS3, the DUO-2, and the Matrix Infinity
DMS3 is just kickass and is great if you think youre gonna be using the Dev mode alot... but its expensive
Infinity is great because you can be lazy and it autoboots for you.. but its also expensive
DUO-2 is compatible with just about everything right now, is effortless to install, and is dirt cheap.. just doesnt have the fancy features of the DMS and INfinity
