I still have more investigation to do on this as I was in a bit of hurry. After installing a Magic 3.1 (I know it's not the best), all the solder points are clean but I get red screens when I try to boot backups. DVD-R and CD-R. Originals, movies and audio CDs all boot perfectly.

I'm suspecting a bad power point (the chip won't turn on) or something like that. I'm going to check all the wiring and solder points when I get home and see if there's something obvious that I missed.

What do immediate redscreens usually mean after an install where originals boot no problem? It's like the modchip isn't even there.

If the modchip doesn't work, it would say " Please insert a PS2 disc "
Check all your pins again, make sure you didn't cross any wires.

Hey Warclock, thanks for the reply.

Turns out it was a pinched A wire. Bah!
