modchip help

hi people...
ok will probably seem like a stupid question to all you professionals but i have no idea what chip i have in my ps2, the loading of discs is very hit and miss, most cd based games are fine majority of dvd games (originals) take a few attempts..so im nor sure if im booting right!! the only thing i can tell you is that if you look through the front of the ps2 just below the controller port there appears to be an orange light that glows brighter when discs are accessed, strangley enough also seems to be active when i am playing from hd!!! any ideas which chip i have so i can disable/boot correctly??

The hit and miss could be the modchip or the laser. Do you know what version ps2 you own? We might be able to determine if the laser is worn or not from version #. The orange light is the hd activity light.
