    Hello.

    I have a SCPH 3900 which is a V7 model.

I was thinking of buying a modchip but I'm not sure what to buy. My mind was set on ChipMod Pro from modchip.ca but then I looked around and saw that many people here think it's a rip-off and that it sucks so if you guys have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. One more thing was that, is it easy to install for a beginner who's only used soldering in an electronics 10 class? Will it be playing every game? I live in Canada so if I order it from somewhere online, it has to be shipped to Canada.

If it's possible, I would like to also have a diagram of the chip. If there is anything else I need to know before buying a modchip, please tell me.

    Thank-you

Yeah, I used to buy from modchip.ca since they are the only ones who carried a lot of chips initially. But then I noticed a $15 or $20 premium on clones of chips I could get originals elsewhere. I will say though they were great with me back in the day when I would order something. Whenever I had a question about installing a chip for the first time, they really helped me out. In fact, I needed a bios chip once for a dead board I had, and when I ordered a chip from them they took the time to find the same kind of board I had, remove the bios chip, and send it to me for free. So yes, I always would pay more but I got great service.

I've also heard that the Duo something Chip is cheap. Something as low as $15. Is that good?

Duo 3. Great backup chip.. don't exect much extras though its an as-is chip. If you have a slimline (no reason to use DEV or HDloader) and don't mind patching your dual layers and PAL titles its a perfect chip for the price.. 100% boot rate with good media and auto-select (reboots to PSX and DVD modes, so you have to reset for PS2 games to load or you get the RSOD)

Theres also XenoPS out now which sports 2 dev modes for $15 too.. I don't think it forces modes like crystal or matrix's though, so pals need patching - havn't messed with them yet.. waiting for terry to get caught up.

I'm sort of confused. So, Duo, Crystal or the Matrix? I want the a good choice to play games that I back up/get.

I apologize for the double post but I'm not sure if bumping is allowed or not.

I wanted to ask about the Crystal Chip 2.0 PRO. I looked around and read reviews saying that it's a good chip. I was wondering about this:

    Media types supported:

    CD-ROM / DVD-ROM / DVD-ROM 9 / *CD-R / *CD-RW / *DVD-R / **DVD-RW / **DVD+RW

*note: These medias are supported ONLY if your PS2 can read them in the first place. These medias are listed only for completeness and due to the fact that Crystal Chip removes the additional checks for some of these medias which were added in v8 and higher consoles.

**note: These medias require the additional "F" write to be attached on v8 and higher consoles.

How do I know if my PS2 can read/play those? I have a SCPH 39001 V7 machine. And if I order from foundmy.com, will I receive the wires + soldering stuff?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank-you.
