Which modchip to by? –

I was thinking about Crystal Chip, but I wanna make sure you can play backups. Will it play PS1 & PS2 backups?
I read from their website that, out-of-the-box it doesn't, but one of the reviews on this site says you can modify the firmware on it. Is there a tutorial/article on how to do it?
Anyone recommend any other modchips or why CC is the best?

You need a hacked firmware. It's an easy firmware upgrade process, so no need to worry. Infinity is also a good choice.

If you're on a budget, I recommend the Duo2SE chip; next best thing to a homebrew chip with the ICE code

I looked at that thread and the Infinity seems better.
I checked up on the Infinity, and it seems they have two versions. One is the regular Infinity and the other is Infinity HomeBrew.
Now I'm not sure which one to buy...
The homebrew says that it won't do backups, but again it's dependant on the firmware. Are there anyother differences that I should know about. I'm kind of leaning towards the homebrew version...
Thoughts?

homebrew can be flashed with the latest infinity firmware, not to many sellers carry the homebrew anymore

Can the regular Infinity be modded to play DivX and MP3 files?

You need software to play divx and mp3. There's a media player for ps2 that does that. The Matrix Team has no reason to go in an area that has been worked on.
