And the old version modbo 2.1 does not work to in a V3 - V4 - V10 ( PAL) but connecting H wire solved the V10 PAL problem, this solution was never to find on the diagrams on the modbo website.
Modbo 2.1 works fine in a V4R and up.
Modbo team reported that the first batch 760 had a V10 problem but now was it solved with their new batches.
The 2.1 modbo had a redscreen problem and the modbo team had a bridged reset resistor solution on his website with a picture of a Myth chip !! and this solution had zero effect anyway.
After a few emails to the modbo team I dont expect much support from them when it comes to wich versions mainboard are compatible or not and their fixes.

SO long post short, the chip won't work despite what the company says.

I think that the modbo team does not test on the older versions.
Support all V1-V16 include PAL/USA/Asia 7500X is to find now on their website.
Same as advertised for the Modbo 2.1 but later in some ad's from the better modchip dealers changed that in V4R - V5 and up to give a correct compability.
PS
After an install I test the dev mode to see if the modchip is working or not, did this after some modbo installs in a V4 wich had a very bad bootrate.
The first test is often succesfull with a booting launchelf on the memorycard but after tapping the resetbutton the sony cloud appears and reset does not help at all to boot launchelf in dev mode, only power off and on sometimes.

Well, thank you for setting that straight. Now I know not to install modbos in v4 or under. And I know it wasn't me or my bad install.

What would be a suitable chip for a version 4?

You used this diagram right?

With a modbo u need to connect the H wire for it to work
Use this diagram for a V4 no gap
V4 MI w/500gb HD & custom HD fan
V9 CC 2.0 w/300gb HD
V4 DMS4 Pro w/250gb HD
V3 CC 2.0
V12 Modbo 745 /clear case
V0 SCPH-10000 JAP w/ DMS3

I did connect the H wire. Still no dice. I also connected the G wire, which is notably absent from your diagram.....hmmmm got me thinking that does. Could this be the cause of my troubles, a wire that isn't needed?

Also could be your laser. Some old lasers can read originals fine but aren't good enough to read backups without some adjusting.
