I modded this system about 2 weeks ago and it worked perfectly playing backups, etc. Now the customer contacts me saying it is acting like there is no mod chip anymore (can't enter modbo settings by holding Cir, Tri, MOdbo not displayed below Playstation logo, etc). I tested it myself and sure enough it is like there is no chip in it so only original games play fine.
I opened it up and the wiring is still perfect, nothing came loose. Rechecked continuity and all points are good. Reflowed all points just to be certain and rechecked continuity. System still acts like no chip. So I thought it was a bad chip and replaced it, and again rechecked all my points with a multimeter but I still have the issue of it acting like no chip is installed.
Anyone have any ideas what I should check next as it can't be the chips (second chip is a known working one out of another machine), can't be the solder joints as they pass 10X magnifying glass and a multimeter, and the points I am soldering to are correct as they worked before, and on other systems.
THis system will be the death of me

use an authentic matrix infinity mod, the modbo is a cheap clone chip and can easily be fried by either updating firmware or changing config settings...If you desolder the points from the chip and insert a authentic matrix infinity it will work as it should

Falmingo, from what I read and hear, everything you just said about the modbo is untrue, and you should really find proof to back up your claims.

as for JuliusPlease, the Modbo 745 doesn't work in either v4 or v5 consoles (I forget which, I'll look into it a little better and get back to you)

it is a cheap clone chip if it can't even work on all ps2 versions like the real MI.

I have used it in previous v5's just mine. And it can't be a fried chip as I swapped in another one with the same results.
And as for the people saying get an MI. Modbo's work. It is not the brand that is the issue. I have installed many many chips, and have not had a dead/defective modbo. They are just as reliable as an MI, just not upgradeable.

Edit- If Matrix infinity's were not over 3 times the price of modbo 745's then I would buy them in a heart beat. But I get Modbo's for $9US each and the cheapest I can get MI's is $31US each.

First off this is the wrong forum to post this thread it should be in the official matrix forums As for the modbo it is a piece of crap clone and although I have never bought into these crap clones I know from many other sources that my statement is accurate in that the real matrix team implants anti-clone code into there new firmwares and I would not expect future firmwares to work with the 745 and the config menu I would think judging from past modbo clones to be dubious at best....

"Reputable" modchip installer, thats funny, and what makes someone a reputable modchip installer? is it someone who does pretty installs and uses these so called "original" modchips

See if the metal shield is touching the chip try using some small pieces of electrical tape on the underside of the shielding where the chip is. Funny whenever theres a problem with a Modbo some people just don't think and just say o its crap thats your problem.
