Which has more features etc?
I would go with the Duo 3. The Omega Team has been much more supportive than the Modbo Team. Modbo Team left their customers with burnt clones. Duo 3 is a good chip, unlike the Duo 2 SE which proved itself worthless.
Both are clones. Duo3 uses free Final ICE code with some modifications and Modbo745 simply uses MI 1.82 firmware. Unlike all previous modbo chips, the 745 is really a proper clone i have to say which might upset some people here. I have tested this chip in a v14 and found it amazing to compare with a real MI. no wonder the real MI installers are not comfortable! Sorry guys, I'm not promoting clones but this 745 is much better than Duo3.
I personally feel that Duo3 is better quality. The only reason I say that is because I trust Team Omega as I have installed hundreds of DuoX2's. I have not had a Duo3 or a Modbo 745 chip not work for me, so I can't say modbo is actually lower quality.... it's just a feeling.
I mainly install the modbo as it allows Dev. mode, and the Duo3 has some issues playing some PS1 games. If I were installing a chip purely to play PS2 backups, I would install a Duo3
I think both have shown they are solid choices as clones for what they claim they can do. Anyone who complains the firmware on the MOdbo745 can't be upgraded is an idiot. THey have always said you can't upgrade the firmware, so if you complain it can't do something they told you up front it can't do, you truly are an idiot.
So true..If you just want to play PS2 backups then the Duo 3 is great (although the auto boot feature is buggy and sometimes you need to reboot to get it to load a game)..I you want a dvd region free movie player or play ps1 backups then get the modboOriginally Posted by JuliusPleaser
both are good chips. Just comes down to if u want advanced features (modbo) or basic game booting (duo)
Is anybody else having problems with the buggy autoboot on the DUO3
You should definately choose modbo 745. Many DUO 3 chips have problems in playing PS1 games and their autoboot function is buggy (can not boot your disc without a reset if you turn on the console with CD tray closed, then put in the disc). Instead, modbo 745 has much more features than duo 3 and is more stable than DUO 3. Considering the prices of the two chips are similar, the decision shouldn't be hard to make.
I see the 745 and 760 are basically the same chip just different layout, do they both perform the same or is there a reason the 745 is preferred over the 760 ?
THe 760 model is just a direct solder version of the 745. THe chip gets placed over the bios points and the chip is directly soldered to the motherboard.
THis is faster, but also more likely to cause problems as it is actually harder to solder on and see if your points are good then if you used wires.
WHereas the 745 needs wires installed for all points.
Aside from that difference, they are exactly the same. And actually most people who get 760's, after messing around the first time trying to direct solder them just end up using wires for all the points anyways.
