Modbo 1.1 on v7 oddness
On certain discs, the laser head goes a little haywire, where it seems to want to slide towards the center of the disc, past its limit, and in doing that makes a kind of chaingun sound, then after a long while the disc is verified and it can play the FMV and such on it without skipping. With other discs, it loads just fine. The discs used are free of any scratches, dust, or fingerprints.
All the wiring seems to be as good as I can manage it (10x magnification used to make sure there's no debris/bridges around the solder points), and the ribbon cables look undamaged (they were handled minimally.) Installing chips is nothing new to me, but this is the first modbo I've done. Is it a firmware issue (if it can be upgraded)?

That sounds more like a laser problem than a chip problem, try usinf a CD based disc and see if that still happens?

take out the laser and laser rails and reassemble them so there straight before you put the screws back in, that should help

I'll try it again, it seems to work perfectly fine on originals though, and some backups. Thanks for the help.
