Mod vs the Swap
I used search but had trouble finding any info on this. I've been looking to either get a swap magic or a mod chip, and was wondering if there were any great benefits over the other. I realize Swap is solderless and does what I want out of it Import/Backup, but I was curious if there were any other issues with Swaps. Mod is the way to go if you can from my understanding.
I'd do a mod chip but I think I'd be stuck installing it on my own. I have no soldering experience too, mind you, short of seeing others do it ( ). So I think I'd end up just with fried PS2 instead of modded PS2. I'd opt to have a pro install it but its a V1 and people only install for V4 and above these days. I've read around and from what I've seen, I can say the system still boots well, I haven't fallen victim to dieing DVD drive....yet (*knock on wood*).
Just trying to get some input.
Go mod or go home....modchip is the only way to go. Look in the vendors section here for someone in your area. If they aren't close enough to drive to, you can always mail it to them. What area are you in?
South Carolina, near capital, Columbia.
My problem isn't really findind someone, shoot I'd be willing to send 3-4 states away via UPS if need be, for a good job done. The problem is my system is V1, one of the first ones that came out in the US. Looking around at places that do installation, I've see many that do not do below V4. I figure this has something to do with cost vs time?
I suggest you sell off your current PS2 and pickup a premod here. You can get them for good deals. gamecubesuxs sells Duo3/Modbo 745 premods for 100 shipped, which is truthfully less then you can pick up a ps2 in the store.
Or you can wait for someone to post theres and pick one up for possiby less.
I totally suggest you sell it now before the PS2 price drops again.
I'd recommend the Chip route as well, went with swap for a while, but I had trouble booting pressed disks. Not to mention homebrew. Chip is the way to go.
i used swapmagic, then i bought a hdd, and put the games on my hdd, i have pnp key. i agree go with a mod. you could try a hdd, if you have the fat ps2, but not 100% compatiable with games.
