I am interested in buying a modchip but heard from someone that you cannot use your PS2 to play games online once you mod the PS2. Is this true? If it is, is there any way to bypass this? Thanks.

simple, turn off the modchip.(you also could have used the search)
ok without having to search here's the run down there is no way to play a backup burned game online.....at all
you can play original online game's aslong as you turn off the modchip.

Only IF they have DNAS, if the game does not have DNAS it can be used to play online.Originally posted by EnTiTy

Note*: SOCOM: US NAVY SEALs (PAL) has DNAS but for some odd reason it can be played online with a backup.
These are (NTCS)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
Midnight Club II
SOCOM: US NAVY SEALs
Twisted Metal Black: Online
ATV Offroad Fury 2
Those are few that can be played online with a backup.
In order to do that you require a modchip with STEALTH mode which allows you to turn off the chip and allow the PS2 to behave as there is no chip installed.Originally posted by Pharcyde

Many others allow you to do so, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

If you get caught using a mod on a DNAS protected game (like forgetting to turn the chip off), can you get banned like Xbox live?
no, they havent implemented such a system yet.
there's also a couple sports games that can be played online using a backup(2k3 games). the catch is, that if no one else is playing the games online, whats the point? the games that can be played online are a year, and some going on 2 years old. while others may not have even been very popular in the first place. and with most people playing games online, being people that actually buy the games, people move on to playing the latest edition of whatever game and stop playing the previous version.
I still play amplitude online. It doesnt use DNAS and there are usually enough people playing to get in a game quickly. Just dont play at 3am, when no one is on.
