  1. #1 Messiah2 v3 - I just installed it - but it will not play backup CDRs
    mz7 Guest
After a very long installation on a v3 ? my test CDR will not play (the red screen comes up). Based on the trouble shooting guide I have gone back to visually see if there are any solder bridges with a magnifying glass and cannot find any. To support that, I also used a multi-meter to check each pin to the one next to it on the motherboard and also on the messiah2 chip and found no shorts. I have also done the track cut and confirmed the cut with the multi-meter.

The machine boots originals just fine. My CD backup was RidgeRacer, copied using Nero 5.0 diskcopy (I do not have a DVD burner yet to test DVD backups)

Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem with my v.4. After much troubleshooting I found that the original install guide had the wrong point for the ground. Double check your ground connection.
But its hard to say without knowing if it will boot dvd-r's.

Make sure that you have a good backup before you go crazy.

After reviewing the installation manual, I now see that the high resolusion pictures show a square ground pad (which I used), however, on the low resolution picture it shows an additonal small 1/4 circle ground. Is this what you had to switch to correct the problem?

As far as confirming a good backup, I would take suggestions on how to do that. I have read both the backup and the original in my PC and it seems to be OK.

    Thanks again for any help.

Make sure your burning your game in Disc-At-Once

Note* Some burners do not support DAO at all (like mine) and even if you choose DAO with a burning program it will burn in other methods.

    Go to this link: http://elby.ch/english/products/clone_cd/writers/a.html

and check if your burner supports DAO

if it does support DAO..just one test CD isn't enough..try others.

yeah ultradude is right, definitely make sure your burning good backups prior to going crazy. They will read fine in a pc , but the ps2 will not boot if its not a good burn.
Also you could try to compare the install diagrams for anything differnt. Use the messiah 2 install guide and compare with the install pics at www.foundmy.com to see if anything is different.

heres a link to those install diagrams
    v3 gh-006 main

    v3 gh-006 bottom

    v3 gh-006 video wire

There will be a little popup button in the lower right corner that will zoom in and give a really good shot of all the points

The guarantee of a good copy is to use CloneCD from the aforementioned www.elby.de. That site will tell you if your burner is 100% compatibvle with the combination RAW-DAO+96. If so then you can make 1:1 bootable copies (with the mod chip).

Cl;oneCD tutorial nearly everywhere but try www.psxmods.co.uk

I have now burned the disk using both CloneCD and Nero using the tutorials provided by Charlie's link. Neither copy made a difference - I still got the red screen. I am also using a Yamaha 2100E CDR which has DOA/96 support, so I believe my copies are good.

I have also compared the install pics from Foundmy.com and the Messiah2 website and found no difference.

Before I remove all of the wires to double check/cleaning of the pins, is there some way I can confirm the Messiah chip is working? Also, if I had bridged pins, would the originals still boot up just fine?

Once again, I appreciate everyones help. Thanks.
