Well, I've had my Messiah2 installed and working perfectly for over a year now. I had my first opportunity yesterday to play an imported game from Japan. Well, it didn't work.....RSOD. My console works flawlessly for all types of backups, but it won't play this import game. Anyone have any clues?

Is the import a backup? How old is your PS2?

Import is an original DVD. Console is a v3, but laser has been replaced recently. Perhaps I am mistaken, but I don't think it can be a laser issue as the console has absolutely no trouble reading any backup of any kind......which I would think would be much more difficult for a weak laser than an original DVD.

sounds like the cd dvd solders just arent good enough for imports. im basing this off of just personal experience, but most of the mods ive done either would give me red screen with imports (ie utility discs and such) or it would get past the browser but never go anywhere from there, no logo or anything. Im guessing that imports are alot harder for a mod to read then backups. doesnt sound like much you can do about this, but like i said, im not necessarily right since im basing all of what i said off of personal experience.

That doesn't make much sense that an import is "harder to read" than an backup. If anything, it should be easier being that it is a pressed, official disk I'm not saying it's wrong, i'm just saying that doesn't seem like the likely problem. Does the Messiah2 have any options for PAL like the Matrix Inf. does?

like i said, possible, but not necessarily true. messiah 2 has ps2, ps1/dvd, and sleep. no modes for specific regions or anything like that
