I'm an installer in NZ. I've just received 10pcs Messiah2 PRO 1.31 and done 9 installation. 3 PS2 comes back after 2 days ended up with not reading any discs, whatever original/silver/dvd-r/cd-r/etc. Anyone any thought on this?
I've downloaded the Messiah2 installation diagram here and carefully followed the diagram. The customers have just played their own backup DVD-Rs. One phoned me the day before about its hard reading discs and the second day it totally died. I removed the chip out of the machine and it still doing the same thing, which definitely means laser damaged. But I phoned other customer and they are playing dvd-r without any problem. Is it just faulty chip? or anything else?
Please help cause I have a big loss

yeah happened to me only on V9 consoles ! 2 out of 3 died, i suppose it's the BA chips on the mainboard that have failed !

i wouldnt blame the messiah 2 to be a definate cause early revisions of the v7 had the exact same problem but i would not rule out the messiah2 being a contributing source it was the ba chips that fried if i remember correctly head full of that much tech junk lol and as new production of the v7 stock replenished the problem vanished.

I've seen a japanese V8 fail like that without even having a modchip installed, so...
    It is suspicious ...
What if the newer PS2 units have traps to cause failures when modchips are installed ?
I've noticed the bad install reports allmost doubled sincethe GH-022 mobo were instroduced.

    It is VERY suspicious ...

    Edit :
I just thought a little more and figured out that if Sony is doing that kind of sabotage, they are aiming the small modders, as having random units to fail is like a technique to make people confused. As they are capable of making chips on several factories at the same time, they might have diferent versions of the same chips (PS2 internal chips) on machines of the same model and time.
This might end up being bullshit, but I am suspicious Sony is trying to make modders have monetary loss.

GH22 are ok so far, never had a faillure, but V9 board seems very very fragile ... (maybe the chips tolerence have been reduced like you said to fail easily with the hardware stress of a modchip...who knows)
I will wait for a new firmware revision of the M2 and try the DMS3 when it will be out...I don't wanna loose another V9 again

What is the BA chip? where is it on the board? Is it possible to replace? Will this fix the problem?

the ba chips control the functions of the drive, yes they're possible to replace. as far as finding them goes, they're kinda easy to spot, but i dont have a pic to draw a circle around to point them out and i dont recall the location from memory.

however, foundmy.com sells replacements(you need to know the exact chip number since they vary), and they have pictures of them on their site.

only thing i put it down to is a looping caused by the chip fault in the code? and combination of certain version 7 boards so its a combination of board and chip itwas mainly GH22 V7 that the fault was on scex pulse is the only thing i could put it down to.
