  1. #1 Messiah 2 V7 No Disk Spin / Read Error

Just installed a messiah 2 on v7...Most of the time the drive won't even bother to try spinning up. When this happens it goes to browser screen and says "no data." If it does spin up, (slightly) it will go through a constant hard clicking sound and in the browser screen it says "Disc Read Error." In both instances there is hard clicking noises emmited from the dvd drive. What could be the problem? What controls the drive to spin up ? what makes the drive make these hard clicking sounds?

GND and 3.45v both used with 22 awg wire.

    Thanks

The hard clicking sounds is the laser trying to focus. Check to see that your laser eye blinks red when first powered up, but DON'T look directly into the laser eye. If it does blink red, then I'd suspect your installation. Best to remove everything and start fresh.

The first install attempt I did in my life resulted in thins kind of error

Check DVD controller points (those on the bottom side of the motherboard), if they are shortened they can cause that symptoms.

    Greets!

If you are going to look at the drive with the black top off, then remember that the white cone (which is magnetic) needs to be placed on top of the spindle centre.

I believe you'll find that the clicking might be due to the laser going past the microswitch that is supposed to stop the track motor. The laser unit then collides with the spindle; the click is the drive screw slipping against what's driving it. At least that is a valid circumstance. You need to know if this is happening. The micor-swictch should send the laser unit back. After a few tries it should give up and display No Data if it can't find the groove.

The laser can't find the groove that it needs to check anything in the first place. This is likely to be a cable replacement problem, under more particularly the orange cable. Maybe you've nicked, caught/snagged the cable and damaged it; most likely installed upside down or something.

Red light does blink, still hard clicking sounds...dvd controller points are perfect. Could bios points cause this? Also I at least managed to get it to "Disc Read Error"

    thanks

One more question, I remember seeing an installation guide for step-by-step messiah 2 installs....as in test ps2 cd backups, ps1 then wire by wire make sure the messiah2 can function

    thanks

Step by step testing no longer works on Messiah 2 - different design from Messiah 1.

Red light blinking means a serius syetm error which can cause anything to happen or not happen. Look in your PS2 handbook.

There will likely be a bridge somewhere possibly a ball of solder wedged behind the BIOS pins which requires light and serious magnification to find (like two pairs of reading glasses and a 10x magnifying glass).

And don't forget the orange or other cables. Did any cables go in the wrong way up?

    Re adjusted bios points

can assure that they are perfect connections

    here's what happens now:
I hit reset to power up ps2.

1 second of initial hard clicking sounds, then after the drive spins, then a constant (5 -10 seconds) of hard clicking "bump bump bump bump bump...." emmiting from the drive

Then to browser, Then disk read error, then no data

I used an original ps2 game

"bump bump bump bump...." a better way to describe the sound is hitting the buttons on your mouse very hard.
