I believe charlie has already posted a possible solution to this problem. Believe me, if you go with a Magic chip over a Messiah without at least trying what charlie has suggested, you will be sorry. Whatever the reason, the Magic may not click but you will be forced to endure multiple other problems with the Magic where there are no solutions. Do your homework and make sure you are well aware of the issues surrounding the Magic.
Don't get so hostile. I wasnt trying to give you a hard time. You said it wasnt a modchip issue. In which it may not be. Im just asking why it doesnt happen with the Magic 3.1. Logic says that if it happends to one and not the other... one must be causing a conflict. I would say it is a result of the modchip. I would rather get a M2... but not at the exspense of killing my PS2. I appreciate your comments as you have helped people before... but on the other hand... relax. I'm just asking questions. Back to my earlier comment. How come the PS2 mod scene hasnt taken a hint from the XBOX scene in regards to flashable mods?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I just got home from work and I'm reading through them right now. *Update to my situation* a friend gave me two verbatim DVD+Rs that were burnt @ 2x and so far I haven?t been able to make my ps2 click with them. Among other things, I'm going to burn something else @ 2x tonight and see if that's what's stopping me.
Sounds good. If DVD+R's are a solution... thats great. I have a Sony DRU-500A
Note it's Verbatim DVD+R burned at 2x rather than 1x (the original burn speed). It's down to that degree of finess and thus the laser interacting with the media.
yo puttyman, you tried Riteks or anything on DVD+R? I am wondering whether these will work or if I go deep into my wallet and get the verbatims.
Thanks again everyone for the responses. I have burned 2 Verbatin DVD+Rs @ 2.4x tonight. 1 on Nero 18.104.22.168 (or whatever the latest is, I downloaded it tonight), and RecordNow Max 4.5 and both of the disk still cause clicking. I really don't know what the hell the difference is. My friends disk are the exact same disk type and he's got a DRU500a too (cept his is firmware 1.0d and mine is 1.0f). Anyone have a DRU500a and try to downgrade the firmware? He's using nero with the psxcopyworld tutorial method. It still stands the same, his media boots every time, mine clicks every other time. I've only dealt with Verbatim and TDK media so far. I'll try some other stuff when I can get my hands on it, but I'm gonna have to wrap it up pretty quick (buying verbatim isn't cheap, not to mention it pisses me off to make clickers). Any suggestions as to where I can find Traxdata DVD-R's in small quantities for testing purposes? Also any other media recommendations and purchasing spots would be appreciated.
okay... I just wanna add my two cents here...
I had a v7 machine which I installed a Magic3.1 chip about 2 months ago. It worked perfectly - up until now. The fella called me last week and said it was making a clicking noise and it wouldn't boot anything. Please note that this machine was brand-spanking new (fresh out of the box) when I put the modchip into it.
I opened it up and found that the clicking noise was caused by the white plastic piece on the laser that sits in the worm gear which moves the laser sled back and forth. The white piece had somehow 'popped out' and wasn't actually sitting in the grooves of the worm gear. This is what was causing the clicking (as the white plastic piece was being dragged across the top of the worm gear grooves).
I simply pushed the plastic piece abit and it fell back into the groove. I tested it abit and it worked fine for about 4 or 5 boots, then the piece popped out of place again. This time I decided to *lightly* bend the white plastic piece so that it would hopefully keep a little more pressure and remain in the grooves of the worm gear. This worked like a charm. Well sort of... I tested it over and over again and it worked just fine. But I got a call from the fella about a week later saying that it's doing it again.
I haven't gotten the machine back from him yet, but I'm assuming it's the same problem. So I'm going to see if I can someone figure out a way to keep this little white plastic piece in place. Or does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure I'm not the first one to notice this...
