messiah 2 question –
i have a v3 ps2, from what i hear the v1-v3 boards are much more difficult to install messiah chips on. is this true? and how about the reliability of the laser? should i look into just getting a v7 premod?
The v3 is not easy but a pro installer handles it as well as anything else. Indeed we are putting an Messiah 2 into a v3 right now.
But yes, your point about the laser is a good one and if you have any reason to suspect that the DVD laser is well used, then you should consider getting a v7 - that's my opinion. See my Messiah 2 review on v7 posted in this forum.
my current ps2 laser is reading dvd-r's like a champ. but my worry is with continued use will the performance deminish? im currently using a swap trick no mod to play dvd-r's.
If DVD-Rs play OK now they ought to be fine with Messiah 2.
v1-v2 machines are hardest.
v3 is like a v1-v2 but you can seperate the two mainboards without desoldering 4 power solder points.
v4 is ok.
