messiah 2 ps2 booting into ps1 mode

I installed a messiah 2 pro onto an SCPH 39002 pal ps2, it works fine but sometimes boots into ps1 mode even though i am just tapping the reset button (not holding onto it as is required to boot into ps1 mode). It could be the ribbon cable so i was wondering, since i don't have one spare, if it was possible to grab six lenghts of kynar wire and solder the reset/eject thingy directly to its port on the ps2 using kynar wire?

u can do that but i'd check the reset wire it might be loose

are you tapping the reset button after having booted an actual PS1 backup, or just in general? I found that I had to power off and back on after using a PS1 backup to then boot a PS2 backup.
