Messiah 2 CDR Install Problem

Installed a Messiah 2 (v1.30) into a v4 (nogap) PS2.

After the install, it plays the following:

PS2 DVD Original : Boot OK
PS2 DVDR : Boot Ok
PS2 CDR: Hangs after "Playstation 2" Logo
PS1 CD: Boot Ok
PS1 CDR: Boot Ok

Also, when booting up, the PS2 & PS1 Logos looked messed up. Can this happen from wiring problem, or should I suspect the chip to be faulty?

I've tried resoldering wires to include B, C, A, W (tried W1 as well), Scex, MNOPQTUVR.

I've adjusted the azimuth - No joy.
I've recalibrated the laser - No joy.
I've reburned the CDR - No joy. (it works in my v7, but not v4).

Before I rip this mod out and start over from scratch, can anyone offer any suggestions?

Uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Same problem. I'm starting to think this M2 is a POS.

have you tried swapping the laser out of your v7 drive? at least then you could narrow it down.

It's not my PS2, and I don't have any spare parts (unless I want to disassemble my own PS2).

I don't think it's a laser problem since it can read PS1 CDRs. After talking to the guy I'm doing the mod for, I found out that he apparently tried modding it himself, realized it was too difficult, then gave it over to me.

It's possible he may have left some solder in some areas that are specific to the Magic 3.1 (the chip he attempted). So I'm going to give it another shot sometime this weekend.
