Assuming you have a new SLIM v12...
A mechacon crash allows unrestricted voltage to tap the tracking coil of the laser. Within a couple seconds, the laser fries.
If you do not have a fix installed, you'll know you have a mechacon crash because you'll be able to detect an acrid odour... that's your laser getting toasted.
If you do have a resistor fix (summ0ne) in place, your console's video will freeze. I've also heard of black screens at this point.
If you have a pic fix in place, the console will reboot.
Can it hapin to a v9 or not?![]()
Yes it can. That's why v9 have burnt coils and we need romeo mod to prevent that from happening.
so if u have summ0nes fix installed on your v12 pstwo it will not happen??
It will happen, it just won't fry (hopefully) your coils because you put the resistors there.
but will my pstwo get messed up? or will it still work
It will still work. Wouldn't be much of a fix if your console still got toasted, now would it!?!
If the fix does its work properly, the pstwo will work. If not, then the laser will be ruined. Doing it properly it will work fine in 95% of cases.
Some batches of pstwos actually had bad lasers, which blew even with a fix applied, and people blamed the mods/fixes. Those batches failed even unmodified.
Because of this, I don't recommend ever modding a new system. Use it for at least a few weeks or even months - most failures occur during the first months and you won't have to experience the frustration of having a void warranty and a broken, nearly new console.
All laser failures that I've read about to date have been caused by mechacon failures. That's not an inherent problem with the laser, only that of the controller. And mechacon crashes have been noted in unmodded consoles... thankfully rarely. I've never read of a laser failure outside of a mechacon crash.Originally Posted by pelzi
The summ0ne fix has proven effective in 99% of cases... the addition of the pic or comsoft fix has made that as close to 100% as possible.
