Hi, I have a v5 NTSC PS2 and I just finished installing a Matrix Infinity in it.
Everthing seems to be working, it autoboots PSX, PS2 and even DVD movies to a certain point.
PSX and PS2 games boot fine whether original or backup but DVD movies will only boot to the browser which shows DVD movie but selecting it will go to a black screen and then back to the browser (same thing). However, if I press the circle button while resetting, the DVD movie plays.
I, then, flashed the firmware to v1.2 but I still get the same thing, PSX and PS2 games boot but DVD movies boot to browser with DVD movie.
I wrote to the Matrix team and their response was that this problem persists in some v5s with a particular DVD player version and that it should be fixed in the next firmware update v1.3 which is supposedly going to be released this weekend if everything goes well.
I was satisfied with that response but then somebody said that the capacitor on the SCEX line causes interference and that once it's been removed, everything should work flawlessly. I personally don't like removing stuff from anything, I mean Sony must have a reason for having it there. But I did solder the SCEX point on the cap instead of the resistor coz I find it easier.
So, what I'd like to know is if anybody else can confirm these facts: 1.) that the problem is indeed particular to v5s only and 2.) that the capacitor is causing the interference and it's removal will fix the problem or if I solder the SCEX point on the resistor instead will alleviate the DVD problem.
